GENERAL F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions)

Updated: Feb 13

On a daily basis, we receive many calls and emails inquiring about our media transfer and digitization services. Here we have assembled the most common ones that are applicable across the board. If you don't see an answer here, feel free to speak with us in person so we can provide you with the most precise information.

DO YOU DO ALL OF THE WORK ON-SITE? Short answer: Yes. All transfers are processed at our Raymond, NH facility, so nothing is sent out to a third party. All items received by us are marked with a unique serial number that is associated with your project, and all of your items are kept together throughout the transfer process.

IS IT EXPENSIVE?

Short answer: Depends on media type and size of project. Like many services, the cost is relative to the size of the job you have. Some jobs, such as a single video tape transfer, might run $17-$20 depending on the final media chosen (DVD and/or USB drive). A small 50' reel of film may run $10 or so. On the other hand, larger jobs will, of course, lead to a larger cost. For this reason, most of our services have built-in bulk discounts once certain thresholds have been met. Sometime our customers that have large projects will bring them in smaller quantity batches. Others prefer to have their whole media library transferred as one large project. We are flexible and can work with you however you'd like to handle it. We offer free estimates, so there's no obligation to speak with us or to bring your materials in person. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? Short answer: Anywhere from one day to a week in most cases.

As with cost, the range varies depending on the size of the project as well as how busy we are at a particular time of the year.. The conversion of one to a small handful of tapes, reels, etc. might only take one day. In some cases, we can turn around very small projects the same day. Larger ones will take more time, but the majority of our projects are done within about a week. Extremely large projects may take several weeks or more. If you have a specific deadline, we can work with you to meet that as long as it is feasible. MY MEDIA IS OLD. IS IT STILL VIABLE? Short answer: Yes. Age is not the only factor in determining the condition of most types of media. We have seen 90 year 16mm film reels that are in excellent shape and have been converted without issue. We have also seen 10-15 year old video tapes or DVDs that have been improperly stored and show signs of data loss or physical damage. In our experience most media will transfer fine without issue. If we run across a problem with any of your materials, we will make note of the problem and whether or not it prevented a conversion. I HAVE BROKEN VIDEOS, AUDIO TAPES, OR FILM REELS. CAN YOU REPAIR THEM? Short answer: Yes. In most cases, the answer is yes. Videotapes, audio cassettes and reels, and movie film can be spliced back together prior to conversion. In some cases, a small damaged section of the tape/film may need to but cut out to form a proper splice.

DO I GET MY ORIGINAL ITEMS BACK? Short answer: Yes. Yes. All of your original media is returned to you along with resulting discs and/or USB drives of the digitized versions.

DO YOU REPAIR EQUIPMENT? Short answer: No. Our services are specifically catered towards providing quality transfers from your original materials. While we do periodic maintenance on our own equipment, we are not set up to do full repairs as a retail service. We can, however, usually assist in certain specific situations, such as when you have a tape stuck in a non functioning camera or VCR.

HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK? WHAT TYPES DO YOU ACCEPT? Short answer: Most types.

We accept Mastercard, VISA, AMEX, and Discover cards. We also accept debit, cash, checks, Venmo, and PayPal. We usually do not accept full payment up front, since during the course of the transfer we may encounter problem items such as blank or unplayable tapes or reels. You will not be charged for these items. For orders under $300, payment is due upon pickup. For orders over $300, a 50% deposit is required.

HOW DO I GET MY MATERIALS TO YOU? Short answer: Bring them in person or ship them. You can either drop them off to us in person at our Raymond, NH storefront, or ship them. We offer $10 flat fee return shipping for all orders.

Our address is: Goodheart Media Services 171 NH Route 27 Raymond, NH 03077.
